Description
Big Tree Charcoal, based in Perthshire since 2022, produces premium Scottish charcoal from sustainably sourced willow and birch on Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) located here on the farm. This area needs to be managed and maintained to benefit this rare area of land. So far, 11,000 trees have been planted to offset the cardon footprint of this project.
Andrew and Alex use an environmentally friendly retort which uses its own gases and the fumes generated to fuel itself. This method results in relatively low emissions compared to traditional methods. The Willow allows the charcoal to light easily, while the birch burns hotter and for longer.
Bags come in 3 sizes and are currently only available for collection from the farm.
Approx. 1kg gives you around 1 hour of cooking time for approx. 5 people and burns with very little smoke.
